standing renovation

It happened without me realizing! I turned my head and saw my-almost-3-years-old-and-always-moving son sitting wisely at his desk drawing.. I thought he would sit there for 30 seconds but it actually went on for several minutes! Then I looked at my 5 years old daughter and realised she’s also capable of spending a LOT of time sitting and doing her crafty bricolages. Lately she was sick and stayed with me at my office for a day. I told her I needed to work and the reply was “me too!”. So off she went to her desk and was busy for over a hour quietly cutting, drawing and colouring.

It’s probably just normal but I was amazed at their concentration and focus!

So then I realized how important it is to provide them with the right furniture so that they can sit and “work” at their convenience.

There are many children desks you can buy and lots of creative solutions to make them more personal. In the numerous Brussels brocantes or flea markets you can easily find old school desks usually coming together with a bank. They exist in all sizes, from toddlers to high-school students (although I don’t know if these latter would appreciate….) and can be painted in different colours to adapt to your interior or to fit your children tastes (a pink desk?).

The IKEA classic is present in most of the houses I have seen so I’ve searched more “design” alternatives and found a few interesting ones from the Italian furniture manufacturer MAGIS.

Don’t markers and pencils always fall from little children tables? Here’s the clever solution: the “little flare” table with transparent legs which serve as pen holders!

For parents who like white and clean lines, here’s the Linus table.canvas

And if you want to add a touch of colour and fun, here are a few creative chairs!

And last but not least, for nostalgic parents who were at school in the seventies, here are “OUR” chairs (I found them in Cameleon)!
